Kathryn W. Davis

“I want to use my 100th birthday to bring new thinking to the prospects of peace in the world,” said Kathryn W. Davis as she launched an extraordinary initiative earlier this year to encourage young people to think and act creatively to build world peace. Dr. Davis’s lifelong dedication to world peace also inspired the formation of Julia’s Circle, a group of generous philanthropists – all mothers – who have offered to match donations to the Rediscover Mother’s Day campaign, up to $100,000, and support the work of modern-day mothers who are working every day for peace. Meet the members of Julia’s Circle:

“As mothers, peace begins with us. We must teach our children that peace is possible, but we have to work at it.”

“I'm 79 years old and a grandmother. All the oil in the world isn't worth my grandson.” Carla Meyer is sponsoring Cele's participation in Julia's Circle to honor her mother's lifelong commitment to peace and justice.

“How can I wish my children sweet dreams knowing others may never awake?”

“Having a peaceful world means as much to me as having a peaceful home: without one, you can't have the other so recognizing our similarities rather than focusing on our differences is crucial to our long term survival as a planet.”

Julia’s Circle is named for Julia Ward Howe, the American abolitionist and suffragist who called for the establishment of the first Mother’s Day for Peace after witnessing the devastation of the American Civil War.
